The Wind and Weeping
Inkjet Print, Transparency, 2022
This work is an abstract representation of reality, of nature, and of every fiber in your body. Implementing self portraiture, I seek to emphasize texture and light at a micro scale. Forcing the viewer to reach an uncomfortable awareness of the body, how it feels, and what can be seen at a micro level. Through this exploration of the self, I construct an abstract but fragmented image of the body and landscape’s attempt to be interconnected as one. Building upon these layers, I engage text and image as a way to draw out tension and create a poetic rhythm between different forms. I inspect and interrogate these relationships whilst searching for a way to bridge the boundary between the two. I install the work in a playful way, using interactive windows and layers of material in order to amplify the surfaces and engage the senses. I also encourage viewers to immerse themselves within the work through the implementation of a book. Which allows the audience to experience the work in a more intimate
way, driving them towards an increased awareness of their own body. This is a work of poetics, a collection of daily notions, and the experience of my body in conjunction with an external environment. The poetry is reaching to create a bridge between the boundaries, an awareness and acceptance of one another. I work to engage in mimicry, to embody my surroundings to the point of no separation or contention.
