Tethered by Body, Freed by Mind

       Tethered by Body, Freed by Mind is a fiber instillation piece that combines the use of skills like natural dyeing, crocheting, quilting, and hand sewing. The piece suspends from a tree branch, allowing the natural patterns found in tree branches to intertwine with my own constructed patterns. 

       The dream-scape is about the experience of feeling separate from ones own body and how this leads to one visualizing their own environment in abstract and dreamlike ways. They are unsure as to whether they are awake or asleep and cannot discern if they lay within a realm of dream or reality.  

       Your consciousness is something that cannot exist without your physical body, yet they are two very separate things. This piece is meant to show the interconnectedness of this. The physical body, the mind, and the environment we all live in is what makes us, us. It is what allows each individual to find their own freedoms in a world bound by restriction.
