DIZYGOTIC

Floor Loom Weaving, Cyanotype Print Photo Weaving, Spring 2021

/,dĪzÄ«’ gädik/

Adj. (of twins) derived from two separate ova, and so not identical but instead fraternal.

DIZYGOTIC explores family archive, memory, genetics, and the experience of being a fraternal twin through various methods of weaving. Both pieces were woven on a four heddle floor loom with hand dyed materials. Woven into the piece are cyanotype prints of my twin sister and I.

DIZYGOTIC has led me to think about memory and its inconsistencies, fragments, and patterns. It also allowed me to begin thinking about the patterns and irregularities within genetics. I have always found myself attracted to the patterns found in DNA sequencing ladders, it is strange how something so complex could be compounded down to dashes and lines. This brought me to the connections between twins and my own resemblance to my sister.
