Artist Statement
I am an interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago with focused interests in photography and fibers. My work focuses on experiences of memory loss and disconnections between the body, the mind, and reality. Working with handheld and interactive works is very important to me and my practice. I enjoy the idea of my work taking up more than space on a wall or in a device, and not being out of reach for the audience. Allowing the audience to touch and interact with my work is important to the understanding of my processes. This includes the use of cyanotypes, hand manipulating images, hand sewing, and crochet. Combining various processes and asking the digital and analog photography worlds to work with each other is always something I experiment with. Although so different, I often find the results compelling and exhilarating. My fiber work is grounded in techniques I learned as a child, creating scenes I could only ever imagine in my mind. Creating new realities, and representations of memories or environments is something I find myself exploring more often than not. My work is a culmination of my memories, thoughts, and experiences. It is inspired by nature, its intricate system of colors, textures, roots, and the deep connections it has to each of our memories, bodies, and minds.
