An Image of Home
Tapestry weaving, 2022
My practice is grounded in labor intensive techniques that have been handed down to me, such as tapestry weaving, crochet, trapunto quilting, and hand sewing. Applying care to these techniques, I use symbols of landscape in connection with family archival images to rebuild and reimagine my memories with diligence and care. By layering images of tree roots with representations of loved ones I hope to illustrate the deep inner connections and lives I have built with each of them. Root systems are foundational, when interconnected they feed life. It is when our roots are interconnected that we are most protected, loved, and cared for. Through laborious techniques I am able to reconnect with those I have lost, reflect upon those I fear that I will lose, and pour my love into those that I still have.
